As per the Amendment of Regulations form Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), effective from September 27, 2011 Indian Bulk SMS have been divided into 2 categories namely Promotional and Transactional. Promotional SMS service has following features as per the Amendment.
No Delivery on DND:
All SMS which are for the purpose of Promotion or Marketing should be scrubbed through DND Database. Subscribers who are registered with Do not Disturb Service will not receive any kind of Promotional SMS.
Timing
Promotional SMS sent should not be delivered before 9 AM or after 9 PM.
Numerical Sender ID
All Promotional SMS will have a Numeric Sender ID. It will not have any characters.
Will have termination charge
As per the amendment of October 25th 2011 of TRAI, every promotional SMS sent from one Mobile operator to another operator will have a termination charge of 5 Paisa extra per SMS apart from regular charges.
